This index does not show dates, only folder numbers which loosely relate to the time frame of the event.
Folder Contents Are Not Included
Microfilm was taken of the original index book which resides at the Macon Court House. The film was poor and difficult to read in many places. Guesses had to be made by those typing regarding handwritten entries.
Calista Dunham was able to verify every typed entry was correct or more correctly agreed with the original book.
I wish to thank all those that responded to my request to help. I'm proud of what has been done.
What About Folder Contents?
Families were able to prepare a will on any paper and register it at the court house. Some were prepared in light pencil on light blue tablet paper. Others were written in ink that has faded over time. The acid in some of the paper has destroyed it leaving only flakes of paper in the folder.
MANY FOLDERS DO NOT CONTAIN A WILL.
Microfilming was done in the last 15 years and many folders could not be copied. In some cases the copies are so poor they can not be read.
Be prepared for such problems if you request copies of the contents of the folder.
Folders from 6796 are in the basement, and we have found some folders are missing in them just as some were missing in the ones that were copied. We can't gaurantee there is a folder and there may not be a will.
