Hall and Mary Bates Hall. He was a retired coal miner, a U.S. Army World
War 11 Veteran, and attended the Ball Branch Regular Baptist Church, at Mousie.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Evelyn Page Hall. Survivors
include seven sons, James D. Hall, Morris Dean Hall, Harold O. Hall, Aubrey
Neil Hall and Mike Hall all of Pinetop, Charles D. Hall of Cottonwood, Arizona,
Leon Dale Hall of Littcarr; three daughters, Aretta Fern Hice of Chillicothe,
Ohio, Chelsa King of Kite, Glenda Hall of Pinetop; four brothers, Harold

A double tragedy costing the lives of two
young men, occurred last night when Edmond Cyrus and William Hall met on
the steps of the small church at Durbin. A small com- muntiy about ten miles
back of Catlettsburg and opened fire on each other with revolvers. Both men
were fatally injured in the fusilade and died shortly after being brought
to the Ashland General Hospital about ten o'clock. The trouble dates back
several months, according to the story told by persons who know the Hall
and Cyrus families, and grew out of a family estrangement which settled down
to a personal grievance between the two young men. Cyrus was twenty- five
years old, while Hall was twenty. Both were well know through that section
of the county and the Cyrus family particularly prominent through long years
of settlement in that region where the men have been farmers and stock raisers.
Following the close of the services at the Cyrus Chapel, the community church
of that section, one of the boys came out of the church and was proceeding
down the steps when he met the other. The guns were out in an instant, bystanders
relate, and each man emptied his weapon at the other, both falling wounded
at the last of twelve shots fired. A call was sent to Kilgore and Collier
in Catlettsburg for an ambulance and this was rushed to Savage branch where
bad roads made further travel impossible. The bodies of the wound- ed men
were carried to the ambulance and brought in to the hospital here. An operation
was performed on Hall who was suffering from a bullet wound in the abdomen.
Cyrus was found to have a wound in his shoulder and another in the neck.
Hall's death occurred about four o'clock and the ambulance was called back
almost immediately for Cyrus, who died but a few minutes later. The Halls
came to Durbin from Beaver Creek and William Hall, the victim of the tragedy,
married the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Jesse Cyrus about one year ago. A separation
eused shortly after and the bride re- turned to the home of her parents to
live. The husband went to the home of his father, Tige Hall, at Burgess Station,
a short distance above Lockwood, on the Big Sandy. The farms were about three
miles apart and the enmity between the husband and the brother of the wife
grew until ended by the affair last night. Jesse Cyrus, father of Edmund
Cyrus, was killed about two years ago when gored and trampled by a mad- dened
bull in the pasture lot. Since that time the son has cared for the big farm
and managed the affairs of the family. He was a member of the Green Hill
Masonic Lodge No. 521 of Bolts Fork; and also a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge
The funeral of Edmund Cyrus has been set for Wednesday morning at ten o'clock
and burial will be made in the family cemetery on the farm. The services
will be read by the Rev. C.P. Smith, pastor of Cyrus Chapel and the Masonic
organization will take charge of the burial. The body of William Hall will
be sent to the home at Burgess Station, where it will be held in the fa-
thers home over night and then sent on to Floyd county by tomorrow morning's
train for funeral services and burial on Beaver Creek,
Wednesday.

2000, at McDowell Appalachian Regional Hospital, following a brief illness.
Born on June 1, 1940, in Wheelwright, he was the son of the late John Melvin
and Connie Little Hall. He was a retired owner of Trojan Restaurant and Arcade.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqualine Branham Hall. Survivors include one
son, John M. Hall III of Wheelwright; two daughters, Kay Berger of Lexington
of North Carolina, Deborah Thornsbury of Wheelwright; two brothers, Russell
Lee Hall of Hurrican Creek, James Bailey Hall of Lexington; two sisters,
Barbara Woods of Pikeville, Hazel Marlene Obroff of Ohio; seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, November 22, at 11 a.m., at
the Wheelwright Freewill Baptist Church, with Louis Ferrari and Jim Smith
officiating. Burial will be in the Hall and Little Cemetery, Wheelwright,
under the direction of Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home

It is with a sad and very broken heart that
we attempt to w rite this obituary of a very dear loved one, Hubbard Little
. He was the son of Creed and Sarah Elswick Little. He was born in Pike County
on January 15, 1910. He left this troublesome world to be with Jesus November
28, 1983.
He was married to Viola Tackett Little March
28, 1929. He was a faithful hard working husband, striving to give his family
the comforts of life. To this union were born six children, five preceded
him in death, Justine, Edith, Randall , .end Namon all died in infancy, Hobert
Eugene died of a heart attack in 1979. One lonely daughter, Flo Varney of
Virgie survives. He also leaves a grieving widow, 14 grandchildren, 14 great
grandchildren.
Brother Hibbard joined the Regular Baptist
Church May 30, 1 947. He loved God and God's people. When you talked with
him, his conversation always turned to Jesus and the
church.
He was a man that loved his family and his
grandchildren and great grandchildren all loved their
Papaw.
He was a retired miner and suffered much with
his lungs, going to church many times when he wasn't able. But he's gone
to a country where he has a new set of lungs filled with God's spirit and
will never suffer any more.
He was a Deacon in the Enterprise Church,
where he served his duties well.
His family all loved him dearly and grieves
daily over thi s terrible loss of such a loved one. We miss you Papaw and
we hope to see you again some day. We believe he is in heaven where he always
talked about going some day. God be with you.

Ida E. Tackett was born Octobe r 16, 1923,
deceased this life on Saturday evening October 26, 1963 about the hour of
2:50 p.m., making her stay 40 years and 10 days. She was the daughter of
Samuel and Sindy Elswick, Ida was married to Preston Tackett and to this
family was born four children, two boys, Roger C. Tackett and Donald G. Tackett
and two girls Charlotte K. Tacket t and Sundra G. Tackett all at home. She
leaves to mourn her passing a devoted husband who tried to help her, four
children, six sisters, one brother, and her parents. Ida was sick the biggest
part of her life with cancer, the good part was that she joined the Old Regular
Baptist the fourth Saturday in October 1953, she was a good member until
death , she lifted her letter from the Longfork Church to come to Chicago
to help organize the Little Ellen Church and did all she could, she laid
in bed and sold things, for that reason I think the church will go on. She
lived a life that who all knew her loved her and she had many friends where
ever she lived.
