OBITUARIES
Anna M. Terrell -- Anna Magee Terrell was born in Barren County, Kentucky
January 31, 1842, died at her home in La Plata, Missouri September 6, 1916,
aged seventy-four years, seven months, and six days. She moved to Macon County
with her parents when a small child and has been a resident of La Plata the
last twenty-four years. She was married to J.J. Terrell September 5, 1865.
They celebrated their golden wedding one year and one day before her death.
To this union were born eight children, six of whom survive, Mrs. J.M. McCarty,
La Plata, W.J. Terrell of Granite Falls, Washington, Mrs. William Cabeen,
La Plata, A.B. Terrell, Spokane, Washington, Timothy H. Terrell who died
in infancy, Robert J. Terrell who died in young manhood, J.M. Terrell, Watson,
Missouri and Mrs. Milt Griffin, La Plata. Besides the children she leaves
a husband, two brothers, W.J. Magee of Macon and Isaac Magee of Clarence,
Missouri; one sister, Mrs. Snodgrass of Macon, nine grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss.
Mrs. Terrell united with the Presbyterian Church at the age of 15 and has
lived a consistent Christian life. Funeral services were held from the
Presbyterian Church September 7, 1916 at 2:00 p.m., conducted by the pastor,
Rev. F.L. Hudson. The remains were laid to rest in the La Plata Cemetery.

Mrs. Anna T. Terrell died at her home in this city, Wednesday, September
6th at 3:50 p.m., aged 74 years, 7 months and 6 days. She leaves a husband,
three sons, three daughters and other relatives to mourn their loss. Funeral
was from the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev. Hudson
and burial in La Plata Cemetery. Obituary next week. La Plata Republican.

Arthur Terrell -- Arthur B. Terrell, age sixty-two years, died December 27,
1935. His home was in Spokane, Washington, having lived there thirty-five
years. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Edna Lambert of Spokane, three
sisters, Mrs. Fannie Griffin of Spokane, Mrs. Ermine McCart and Mrs. Etta
Moncrief of La Plata. Two brothers, John M. Terrell of St. Joseph, Missouri
and W.J. Terrell of Wenetchee, Washington. Funeral was at 1:00 from the Smith
Funeral Home, Rev. Ray S. Drum officiating. Interment at Greenwood. La Plata

Joel Jackson Terrell -- Joel Jackson Terrell, a highly respected pioneer
resident of this city died last Friday evening at the home of his daughter,
Mrs. D. Milt Griffin in east La Plata after suffering two paralytic strokes
some time ago and had been bedfast for several months. J. J. Terrell was
born on August 9, 1841 in Illinois, died in his home March 14, 1919, aged
seventy-seven years, seven months and five days. He was married to Miss Anna
T. Magee September 9, 1865. To them were born eight children, six of whom
survive. Mrs. Terrell was called home more than two years ago. Mr. Terrell
professed faith in Christ and united with the Presbyterian Church at Terrell
School House in early manhood and was made a ruling elder in the same church.
After he came to LaPlata he united with the La Plata Presbyterian Church.
The children who survived are Mrs. J. M. (Ermine) McCarty of La Plata, W.
J. Terrell of Wenatchec, Washington, Mrs. William (Etta) Cabeen, La Plata,
A. B. Terrell of Spokane, Washington, J. M. Terrell, Parkville, Missouri
and Mrs. Milt (Fannie) Griffin of La Plata. Mr. Terrell was a veteran of
the Civil War. Funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian Church
Sunday afternoon, March 16, by Rev. F. L. Hudson, assisted by the Rev. I.

Robert Terrell -- Robert Terrell died at his home in La Plata on Saturday,
January 4, 1902, at 10:50 a.m. of consumption. Robert Jackson Terrell, aged
23 years, 11 months and 24 days. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at
the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and the remains were laid to rest
in the La Plata cemetery. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. L.W. Gunby
and the Knights of Pythias Order conducted the services at the grave. Robert
Terrell was an exemplary young man. No citizen of La Plata was held in higher
esteem than he. He was a noble Christian man and his reward in a better world
is assured. The heartbroken parents and other relatives have the sympathy

Miss Cora Cleveland Waddell, 41, died 17 May 1926. She was the daughter of
Luke and Olive Waddell. She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Victor Walker
of south Macon, Mrs. A. Newt Arnett of near Cox Post Office and Miss Ethel
Waddell with whom she made her home. Her parents died a number of years ago.
Funeral at Fairview Church and interment in nearby cemetery.

William Green Waddell died 15 September 1927. He was born 2 March 1856. He
was married to Mollie Lee 29 December 1881. To this union five children were
born, J.R. Waddell of Moberly, MO., Mrs. H.A. Farmer and Mrs. T.C. Sumpter
of Shelbina, Mo., and Mrs. H.R. Clarke of Macon and one child dying in infancy.
He also had two brothers and two sisters. Funeral at Fairview Church.

Isham M. Walker was born on October 15, 1853. Mr. Walker's parents, Isham
and Mahitable (Murphy) Walker, were dwellers in this state in its pioneer
days. The father was born in Kentucky in 1816, and came with his parents
to this state when he was a small boy. His father, Johnson Walker, was also
a native of Kentucky. The father's death occurred in 1877. His first marriage
was with Miss Mahitable Murphy, of Macon County. They became the parents
of seven children and five of them are living; Elizabeth, the widow of L.
E. Hope, of Christianburg, Kentucky; Gabriel M., who lives in Macon County;
Sarah J., the wife of Jacob Albright, of Joplin, Missouri; Andrew B., who
is one of the prosperous citizens of St. Louis; and Isham M. The mother of
these children died in 1855, and in 1860 the father was married a second
time, on this occasion being united with Miss Malinda Andrews, of Howard
County, in this state. Of their two children only one is living, Anna D.,
the wife of George Wisdom, of Macon County. Mr. Walker was married on November
19, 1876, to Miss Mary J. McGrew, a daughter of Clinton and Angeline (Spencer)
McGrew, prominent citizens of Macon County. They have five children, all
living in Macon County but one. They are: Susan Luella, the wife of Alfred
Purdy; Melville C., whose home is at Rockyford, Colorado; Hubert E., of this
county; Henry F., also of this county; and Victor T., who is still at home.
Cemetery: Friendship. Description: Located two and a half miles south on
Highway 63 and two and three-fourths miles southeast of Macon, Missouri.

Mrs. George Whitehead -- Eva Ruby Day was born June 3, 1877 in Macon County
the daughter of Joseph Munn and Urmin Magee Day. She died at the Laughlin
Hospital in Kirksville at the age of 77 years. She was married on Feb. 22,
1894 to George W. Whitehead, who preceded her in death Jan. 2, 1953. She
had lived her entire life in Macon County. She was a member of the Methodist
Church. Survivors are: Two daughters, Mrs. Grover Brumback and Mrs. Raymond
Wood, Macon; two sons, Hubert Whitehead, Peoria, Ill., and Omer Whitehead,
San Bruno, Calif.; one foster son, Hubert Riedle, Las Banos, Calif.; and
three half brothers, Hubert Snodgrass, Boise, Idaho, Charles Snodgrass, Dillon,
Mont., and Earl Snodgrass, Sloan, Iowa. She also leaves seven grandchildren,
Mrs. Leo Barnes, Lawrence, Kan., Clinton and Robert Brumback, Macon, Raymond
Lewis Wood, Jr., Kansas City, Mary Jane Whitehead, San Bruno, Calif., and
Virginia Lou and Homer George Whitehead, Peoria; and five great grandchildren,
Charles, Harold and Judy Ann Barnes, Karen Sue and Terry Lee Brumback.

Peoria Heights -- J. Leona Whitehead, 80, formerly of 3919 N. St. Joseph
Court died at 7:50 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, 1991, at Bel-Wood Nursing Home
in Peoria, where she was a resident. Born Jan. 15, 1911, in Macon, Mo., to
Richard G. and Jennie L. Hocket Greer, she married Hubert C. Whitehead on
March 22, 1933, in Clarence, Mo. He died on Oct. 16, 1982, in Macon, Mo.
She also was preceded in death by three brothers. She is survived by one
son, George of Carbondale; one daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Virginia) Nussbaum
of Eureka; one brother, Harold Green of the state of Nebraska; six grandchildren;
and one great-granddaughter. She worked for 30 years in the central supply
department at Saint Francis Medical Center and was a member of the St. Francis
Saints Club. She attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church in East Peoria.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Wilton Mortuary in Peoria, the Rev.
A. E. Cope officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the
mortuary. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens, Peoria. Memorials may
be made to the American Diabetes Association Heart of Illinois Chapter.

Richard Whitehead, 79, died at his home northwest of Macon 7 December 1902.
He was born 31 July 1823 in Dimchurch County, Kent, England; with his parents
came to America and settled in New York 1827; was married to Miss Stazzie
Sears of New York 7 June 1842. To them were born 13 children, seven boys
and six girls all of whom lived to be grown and survive excepting Mrs. Mary
E. Greer, who died 13 November 1880. He moved to Missouri in July 1855 and
settled near Palmyra. In November 1858 he moved to Macon County, four miles
northeast of Macon where he died. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian
Church. His wife and twelve children survive. Funeral at Liberty Church.

William Whitehead -- Mr. William Whitehead who will be remembered as Macon's
oldest citizen, passed away August 21, 1962, at the Taylor Rest Home where
he had resided for about nine years, at the age of 106 years and 11 months.
The body was taken to the Hutton Funeral Home until the hour of service at
the First Presbyterian Church in Macon at 1:30 p.m., Thursday. Burial was
at Liberty Cemetery north of Macon. The Rev. William G. Rhoades had charge
of the service. Harry H. Moehle was soloist with Mrs. Vogelman at the organ.
Mr. Whitehead was born Sept. 22, 1855, in Utica, N.Y., the 6th of 13 children
of Richard and Stazzie Sears Whitehead. When Mr. Whitehed was 6 months old,
his parents moved their family to Missouri and located near Palmyra, Mo.,
where his father supplied timber for bridges and telegraph poles for the
Hannibal and St. Joseph Railroad. In 1858 they moved to Macon County to make
their home on a farm four miles northeast of Macon. He was married Sept.
22, 1880, to Miss Emma Nisbeth. To this union was born three children, Ethel,
Arthur and Roy, all of whom survive. With the exception of one season in
Kansas, Mr. Whitehead was engaged in farming in Macon County until his retirement
in October 1941, when they lived among their children. Mrs. Whitehead passed
away in May 1845, after having 64 years of happy companionship together.
They both united with the Liberty Presbyterian Church north of Macon in 1885
and in later years he was a presiding elder as long as services were held
there. Survivors include the three children, Mrs. W.O. McQuary, Danville,
Ill., Arthur of Jacksonville, Mo., and Roy of Macon, 10 grandchildren, a
number of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and other relatives,
one brother, Richard Whitehead of Edgewood, Iowa. Pallbearers were Howard
Whitehead, Robert Whitehead, Wilbur Whitehead, Lawrence Fessler, Thurman
Bailey and Arthur M. Bailey.

Annie Moore was born July 17, 1849 in Monroe County, Missouri and departed
this life at her home in South Bucklin March 18, 1933, age 83 years, 8 months,
1 day. She was united in marriage to J. W. Wiggans March 8, 1874. To this
union was born three children: A. L. Wiggans, Drumright, Okla.; Mrs. T. C.
Moore, Bucklin; and W. H. Wiggans, Drumright, Okla.; who together with three
sisters, Mrs. Mary Gasaway, LaPlata, Mrs. Katie Keyte, Elmer, Mrs. Janie
Davis, Amarillo, Texas; one brother, W. N. Moore, Glenco, Okla.; one half
brother, Dee Moore, Piemon, Mo.; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Gertie Wiggans,
Drumright, Okla.; and Mrs. Amelia Wiggans, Bucklin, eight grandchildren,
five great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends survive.
In early life she united with the Primitive Baptist Church, but while in
Bucklin she was a faithful attendant of the Christian Church. Funeral services
were held at the Christian Church Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock conducted
by Rev. Geo. Manifold, pastor of the church. Interment in the Masonic Cemetery.

The remains of Mrs. Susanna Wiley, 81, were brought to Bevier from Watonga,
Okla. 11 May 1926 for burial. She leaves a daughter, Mrs. James B. Scott.

Mrs. Maggie Windle, 63, died in Kansas City, Mo. 17 April 1928. She is survived
by two sons, Cecil M. Windle of Odessa, Mo., Charley Windle of Kansas City,
one daughter, Mrs. Nellie Smoot of Ethel. She has been a resident of Macon
until two years ago. Funeral at Forster funeral home in Kansas City.
