OBITUARIES
ARMINTA HAWKINS -- The shadows of the night were stealing softly westward
and a new day was just dawning amid these scenes of grandeur, a beautiful
life was already ebbing away and the soul of Grandma Hawkins went winging
into eternity. The death angel had passed silently by and she answered the
summons. Grandmother Hawkins was born in Cole County, Illinois September
20, 1862. She answered the summons of death January 3, 1941, being at the
time of her death seventy-eight years two months and fourteen days. She was
united in marriage to George Hawkins September 10, 1881. To this union three
children were born who remain to mourn her departure. They are Haseley Hawkins
of Elmer, Mrs. Mollie Ratliff of Ethel and Connie Hawkins of Los Angeles,
California. She also leaves several grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Early in life she became a member of the Presbyterian Church and these were
her religious convictions through life. Grandma Hawkins was devoted to her
family. It was her delight to do something that would make their burden lighter
and their life happier. Not only to her family but to all who passed her
way she delighted in being of helpful friendly service. She was always happy,
contented and never complained of the place in life in which fate had placed
her to serve. She liked to spend her time in the quiet of her home. She thought
of others first and herself last. A place has been left vacant in our home
but a sound has been added to the hosts of Heaven. Her place can never be
filled but out of sorrow comes condolence when we know that God is just and
righteous and He has promised to all who serve him faithfully a place in
everlasting bliss and eternity. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at
the home near Elmer, Rev. Rolecanes officiating. The Presbyterian Choir of
Ethel rendered the appropriate music. Those who helped with the music were
Mr. Finis Clardy, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Young, Mrs.
Collins and Mrs. Ben Edwards. The grandsons were pallbearers, Harold, Hughie,
Ora, Noll and Jean Hawkins and Junior Ratliff. The body was laid to rest
in the Bunce Cemetery. La Plata Home Press, January 9, 1941
